Cards and a parcel - and it isn't March yet!

I suggested that my cards would arrive in March but I was wrong .... unless there are more to come. Yesterday I received three birthday cards from Valerie, Colin Judith and the gang and Auntie Jean in Markinch and a parcel containing, a golf glove, a golf cap and two DVDs. Now I dont know who that is from! The label was typed and there are no clues on the packaging. Anyway I thank you all most sincerely for thinking of me. I am going to wear the glove and the cap at the Bahrain Open in less than two weeks time and hope they will bring me luck. At least I will LOOK like a golfer.

I have started a series of lessons to try to improve my game but as usual you take a little step backwards at first as you try to change long standing habits.

School is marching along and we are almost on the home run of another year. It's amazing how quickly time flies in.

Anyway, thanks again for the cards and pressies.

Happy Birthday to me

Hi all, thanks for the meny texts and emails wishing me a happy birthday. I know that some cards are on their way but none has arrived yet. It'll be a fine surprise when they finally get to my mail box in March!!!!

As you may have guessed I spent most of my birthday on the golf course or rather golf courses! Today was the Green/Brown Challenge where our club play against Riffa Golf Club playing 9 holes on our desert course and 9 holes on their grassy green course. I played pretty well but we were beaten on the last hole. Sheila spent most of the day in the school at the Board of Trustees meeting. We then popped up to the shops and I got myself a new haircut for my birthday. We bought a nice steak for my birthday tea and Sheila is having some kind of kebab with salad mmmm. I have opened a bottle of red which is something of a rarity these days.

We are fast approaching the anniversary of the day start of the troubles last year and there are plans for more protests. Inshallah, the next few days will pass without major incident.

Cheers for now
David and Sheila.

Long time no post

Hi y'all, its been some time since I posted to the blog so I thought I would give you an update. There hasnt been much to say and I dont really want to tell you what we bought at the local supermarket! The weather has warmed up a little but the last few days has been a Shamal which is a wind that brings us terrible sand storms. It has been the worst since we arrived here. It appears to have blown out now. It has taken its toll on roadside signs and more importantly it has blown away the oiled sand from the greens at the golf course resulting in the cancellation of todays competition. We still await news about our games tomorrow and Sunday. Sunday is the prophet's brithday so we are on holiday. Its the Ladies Excuse Me at the golf club where lady members invite three men to be their partners. Luckily Sheila asked me to be one of her partners. We also have Gerry McDermott, an Irishman and Clive Bailey from South Africa. It should be fun.

It's about a year since the unrest started and there is significant rumour about an upsurge in the unrest again around the 14th February, the anniversary of one of the important days in the commotion the last time. Lets hope for the sake of everyone that it passes of quietly. We never hear a thing where we live now although there are still incidents every night in the villages.

It wont be long until our half term holiday but Sheila will be working to allow us maximum holiday time in the summer. We should be home for about 5 weeks approx 13 July to 17 Aug.

Getting ready for Sheila's golf lesson today. Although the course is closed the driving range will be open so I'll probably bash a few balls too.

Have a great weekend when it comes for you.
